Graham Thompson Collaborates with the Volunteer Reading Project

On Tuesday February 20th, Graham Thompson will join the Volunteer Reading Project in the facilitation of a Literacy Day at the Uriah McPhee Primary School in central New Providence.

On this day, volunteer readers from the firm will read storybooks to each of the school’s twenty-eight classes. Staff from the firm’s Freeport and Providenciales offices will be able to also participate by reading via live stream.

Introduced just over a year ago in September 2016 by Laurenne McDonald, the Volunteer Reading Project has so far benefitted several hundred students in New Providence public primary schools. The initiative has comprised facilitation of Literacy Days at various schools by volunteer readers, in addition to weekly readings at some schools. Through the Project, volunteers and other donors have also supported the strengthening of school libraries through the donation of books and other reading and learning resources.

Last September, Managing Partner Judy Whitehead and Partner Anastasia Campbell participated in a Literacy Day at the T. G. Glover Primary School. Whitehead read the book “My Mouth is a Volcano” to a third grade class and Campbell shared “Green Eggs and Ham” with a first grade class. Partners Michela Ellis and Aliya Allen have also participated in the Project. Ellis in a Literacy Day at the Albury Sayles Primary School and Allen in the Stephen Dillet Primary School’s Literacy Day.
